The black silk shirt dress

Sometimes I wear something that I can't simply find a good alternative for/ or is readily available; today my 2nd Day black silk shirtdress is one such item. On trend it's not which is probably why I'm having such difficulty; but it's such an easy piece (one item dressing is the quickest option in the mornings for the 1st week back to school), cool (as in fends off overheating) and I like to think flattering!

So why is this classic (some might say boring), 100% silk shirt dress, not in any retailers current range? Who knows, but I imagine that it's a case of reinventing the wheel or in most cases overworking it. I actually bought this dress from TK Maxx ages ago and remember it being an 'expensive' purchase by the discount stores standards but when I saw it I didn't hesitate in buying it.

Of course I've found an abundance of black shirt dresses on sale, but they aren't silk, or day dresses that aren't plain, instead offering a ditsy floral, graphic print or spot motif; and then of course there are plenty of styles, from wrap to maxi, but they're not shirt dresses!

Anyway I stand defeated, above with Chloe oversized shades and Mi Stan Smith leather trainers!! See my 3 picks of 'the best of the rest' day dresses I've come across in my fruitless search.....
If you have a favourite dress in your wardrobe that you can't replace, get in touch. Maybe we can persuade a manufacturer to do some remakes of oldies but goodies!! Click on the links to shop and thanks for stopping by.
