Designer inspired summer outfit

22/3/2018

Now it's officially Spring I thought I'd select a great summer outfit to buy into now before the high street items become a sell out; or to give you time to save up for the investment designer pieces! As always I've started from the bottom up to create a relaxed stylish off duty summer outfit.

Tan leather slides are a classic footwear option, especially to pack for holiday, as they go with any outfit and are great for both sightseeing and casual evening looks. The Saint Laurent leather slides have inspired Zara's current leather crossover sandals, and although they come in several colours I would definitely stick to tan.

Then it's got to be a belt bag for a fashion update this season; practical as well as stylish it's another no brainer for a holiday choice. The Gucci Marmont quilted belt bag has driven this trend and Zara has nailed it again.

Gabriela Hearst has created THE midi skirt of the season, a striped linen belted number; but if you can't stretch to the £695 price tag then visit Topshop for a more affordable version of.

The designer logo T-shirt is very much still around with tongue in cheek print versions from Gucci. Go to H&M for the best selection of print T-shirts that have a similar look, like the tigers appliqué design below.

All the top design houses have Cats-eye sunglasses in their range for SS. Note the additional metal details and Massimo Dutti have created a designer looking style for a fraction of the price.

If you're lucky enough to be going away for the Easter break then this is one summer look to go for! Click on the links to shop and thanks for stopping by.

Mango SS18
The sun has made an appearance today, short-lived admittedly, but it may just get you in the mood to start thinking about your Spring/Summer wardrobe. Also with the Easter holidays approaching you may be getting ready for a break abroad.

If you are looking for some instant updates this week then take a look at the 'New Now' at Mango. As a brand they've been upping their game over the last two years and these shots from the SS18 campaign are testament to Mango now being on an equally stylish footing as their biggest competitor Zara!

All things natural, linen and handicraft inspired are the overriding trends to buy into this season, and all these boxes are ticked, and then some, at this high street retailer. There is so much great stuff to choose from and so I've whittled it down to my favourite five items below; roll on the Summer!

Mesh Pattern shopper bag £59.99
More than macrame; this waxed cotton knot bag will instantly tick a trend box as well being much more practical than a bamboo clutch, another summer must have, for all your daily needs!
Picture
Striped Bow dress £59.99
We all need at least one summer statement dress in our arsenal and the striped dress has been having a moment, with Kate Garraway's Zara green and white dress a sell out last week! This Mango version uses the stripes in a flattering way and the marigold shade is sure to make you feel sunny!
Picture
Braided design mules £59.99
Slip ons and mules will be all you'll need for a footwear refresh. Last year Mango did the two tone sling back which was an instant hit and these braided mules are also sure to be a sell out. So don't miss out because you can't bear to bare your heels just yet. Stash them away for when it heats up!
Picture
Floral midi skirt £49.99
Elevate your skirt inventory with this sophisticated floral print wrap tie midi. It looks great with a simple flat sandal or mule and basic vest T-shirt. It will become a 'go to' statement holiday piece and super light when rolled up for a getaway!
Picture
Fringe Beads earrings £12.99
The easiest and cheapest way to inject modernity into your look is with some costume jewellery. Whilst asymmetry is still going strong fringing and tassels are the biggest news in earrings for Summer. This pair is perfect, not too frou frou or over the top, so can be worn with either an office or off duty look.

Get some Royal inspiration

Meghan Markle at the Commonwealth Day service on Monday
Well she's not a member of the Royal family just yet, only a few weeks to go, but Meghan Markle just demonstrated how to successfully put an occasion wear outfit together by sticking to the basics. Whilst Meghan uses the services of a stylist you don't need to; if you're ever in doubt about what to wear to a more formal function whether it be for a Christening, Race day or other event that has a more polished dress code then be inspired by her look and keep it simple!

On her first official event alongside the Queen, the Commonwealth Day service held at Westminster Abbey, her outfit was elegant and demure, with a below the knee hem length and arms covered up in a stylish ensemble. She chose British designers Amanda Wakeley for her Frock Coat and dress and Stephen Jones for her hat. Classic Heritage brand Mulberry for her bag, and Spanish Cordwainer Manolo Blahnik for her navy heels.

So here are my three inspiration tips that we can take from this Princess in waiting. Of course she's a beautiful lady with the worlds press inches away but the winning formula is there for us all to follow.

1) Less is more: Take a leaf out of Meghan's style here and leave the oversized statement hats at home. This simple beret style hat is from famed milliner Stephen Jones but as this is an on trend shape expect more high street stores to follow. Note also that her hair is worn down but away from the face and her make-up and nails are natural, highlighting her natural beauty.

Mulberry Small Darley Lilac Cross Grain Leather Bag £550
2) Stick to two colours: Pick a two tone colour palette with neutrals, here it was navy and ivory, but it could be black and ivory. Obviously never wear white to a wedding unless the dress code stipulates it. Or you could pick out a 'fashion' colour, like this seasons trend shade lilac, see above, for your accessories as long as it sits back to a neutral outfit ; navy or ivory will work well.

3) Choose functional fabrics: Here she's chosen to wear a dress by well established British designer Amanda Wakeley which is made from Ponte fabric, also known as Ponte de Roma, because of the way it is knitted together. Why Ponte? Well for several reasons, as it's a combination of polyester, Rayon and Spandex. it has some give and won't wrinkle or crease, meaning it looks good however long you've been sat down for.

Also as it's a double knit fabric it has a good weight and gives more coverage as it's thicker, so nothing will show through, especially when photographed. The spandex content means it's got some give so it will hold you in the right places and give you a streamlined look. However do wear it in your size or slightly smaller as baggy ponte is a definite no no, and won't be flattering at all.

It also wears well and is durable. Some items may say dry clean only but in the main it can be put on a warm wash and look as good as new. See Amanda Wakeley Ponte dresses at The Outnet below.

I'm sure there will be many more style tips that we can glean from Megan over the next few months and it will be interesting to see how her style evolves once she joins the Royal family proper. For now click on the links to shop and thanks for stopping by.
