It's not often I get a chance to write a post about them but when Hollywood royalty hit the red carpet for the Oscars it gives me the perfect opportunity to write about the full length evening gown.
I've gone to Harpers Bazaar for their report on the 10 best dressed celebrities and tried to find similar gowns to give you an award winning look.
First up is Chalize Theron oozing glamour in Christian Dior. left.

For a romantic, gothic look Rooney Mara, left, opted for a stunning Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown.
Whilst it may not have the cut outs or revealing front split this Anna Sui maxi dress, below, has a similar feel but certainly doesn't have the hefty designer price tag.

My personal favourite of the night was the gorgeous Margot Robbie who shimmered in this sophisticated sequin plunging column dress by Tom Ford.
It was difficult to find a long sleeve full length sequin dress that came close but no doubt it won't be long until a slew of copy cat versions hit the high street.
Until then this Ariella Venetia long sequin dress with fishtail hem, below, at John Lewis will fit the bill. Reduced to clear now at £129 and an online exclusive it's certainly a winner.
