Today I'm off to see my youngest participate in her first Mother's day assembly. Thankfully I'm prepared as I've now been to a few with my eldest. Like most parents I've gone along to the seasonal productions beaming proudly and expecting the odd gaffe.....well they say never work with animals or children for good reason, but I'm not usually one to shed a tear.
Cue my first Mother's day assembly.......when an Abba song, made popular by the hugely successful Mammia Mia film, was belted out by reception reducing myself and a few rows of unsuspecting mums to blubbering wrecks. Thankfully I always carry a pack of tissues and will put two in my bag today just in case!!
The song? 'Slipping through my fingers'............I can't even type it without a lump rising in my throat. The lyrics that set me off? Well, now I've refreshed my memory, all of them!!
It reminded me of another mums insight when I was looking to go back to work after 18 months at home with our first. She said to bear in mind that those first few years would just fly by and that I'd never be able to get them back. Now they're both of school age I can look back in hindsight and see how right she was.
