Gingham fabric reminds me of a strappy summer dress, albeit with sheered top, my mum made my sister and I when we were about 4. I think mine was yellow and my twins was pink, with matching hair bows. That ingrained memory is why I'm struggling with Gingham as a trend fabric this Summer around. Whilst we absolutely loved our summer dresses in the seventies I'm not sure, now I'm in my mid forties, I can carry it off with aplomb!
J.Crew has come to the rescue with a wearable blazer, surely inspired by the catwalk Altuzarra SS17 runway show. At £188 it's affordable in comparison to the £1,290 price tag of the designer version. However I love the styling of bralet, floral print ruffle skirt and mid heel height strappy sandal which ticks all the SS trend boxes but as an overall look hard to carry off, especially when your stomach isn't your best feature!
J.Crew have also used the safer colour option of navy and white or take a lead from the fashion set, as most are sticking to a black and white gingham or the quintessential baby blue check pattern. I'm on the fence but have chosen my 6 favourite high street pieces nonetheless, below.
