So today I've put together my recipe for a first date outfit. Polished, casual is the look I've gone for. Not over the top glam as let's face it, if you watched Beauty Queen and Single, the guy didn't even notice she wasn't wearing make-up!!
Not too trendy but trend aware; again tricky fashion ensembles have proved to turn men off. They just don't get it, unless they're Tom Ford and well, it's unlikely you'll be on a 'date' with him. A heel but one you can walk confidently in, shades for an air of mystique, but not if it's dark and never to be worn inside, and some soft, tactile textures to show your warm, fuzzy side.
Go for low maintenance grooming; a blow dry, nail polish and a soft make up look. Now I'm older I think this shows a man you're capable of looking after yourself therefore able to look after him; too much maquillage and it shows him how much time you'll spend in the bathroom rather than time spent stroking his ego! Cynical? Maybe. Pandering to his basic instincts? More likely. Well, it is a first date, plenty of time to reset the balance if the relationship flourishes.
So good luck to anyone who finds themselves single and about to embark on a first date. As Fred Sirieix, the Maitre D' from First Dates, who knows a thing or two about putting yourself out there says,' There is only one happiness in this life. To love, and to be loved'; although I'd say low brow dating shows come a close second!
