It came as a surprise that Debenhams recently issued an unexpected profit warning; making the share price plunge and wiping almost £70 million off its market value. The chief executive Sergio Bucher, formerly at Amazon, is in the process of giving this stalwart British brand a much needed overhaul, concentrating on the social aspects of retail shopping.
Debenhams used to be my go to for swimwear, especially the Butterfly by Matthew Williamson range, and surprisingly I purchased my current sofa and chairs from there a few years ago. At Christmas I also bought these marble coasters for myself and frame as a gift and featured the Studio by Preen grey and red coat in a recent sale coat article for www.talentedladiesclub.com.

The once popular Designers for Debenhams concept is also under review and I must say that previous editorial and press worthy items from various designer ranges have been hard to get hold of, often selling out or not even appearing online!
With the 'Debenhams redesigned' strategy yet to pay dividends it will be interesting to see if this is one high street store that can survive or if it will sink as BHS did or frantically tread water like the M&S womenswear department! I for one hope it can sustain the consumers interest as we have a branch locally and it would be a shame if it closed.
