Summer style staples in the Massimo Dutti sale

If you're familiar with my blog you'll already know that Massimo Dutti is becoming my favourite go to brand. I have to admit that sizing is sometimes an issue, especially as I order online, and I've had to return a few items. However the grown up sister brand of Zara often offers staples for a modern day wardrobe as well as statement pieces that aren't too fashion forward as to be deemed unsuitable after one season.

Currently on sale are my picks below; I actually own the skirt, see above, as I bought it full price and it's been useful in the hotter weather, worn with a linen tank top or popover shirt, similar to the styling shown.

Here I'm wearing it with an All Saints t-shirt, Coccinelle leather round cross body bag and Matt Bernson KM gladiator sandals, all old. As I already have tan leather sandals I don't need another pair  but if I needed to replace them these slim strap ones would be ideal.

I love the colour combination of this tie dye abstract print shirt and wanted to get the dress, see left, but it's already sold out, so the shirt will give interest to classic separates instead. You also can't beat a neutral coloured shirt and this one in lyocell will look great teamed with paper bag or tailored shorts for a cool but considered office look.

I'm tempted by some of their new collection but as I'm trying to purchase less and buy more thoughtfully I'll refrain for now. Click on the links to shop and thanks for stopping by.

Magic dog bowls from Magisso!

On my recent visit to Singapore I ventured into Crate & Barrel, to look at home decor for the family apartment, when I came across these great pet products; slow feeding and cool water bowls. When I arrived back home I tried to purchase them from Crate & Barrel but unfortunately they don't export these items. However you can buy them much closer to home as they stock the Magisso 'Happy Pet Project' at Ocado, Fetch and Amazon.

Magisso is a Finish company, based in Helsinki, and since the founders Juhani and Anssi set it up in 2008 Magisso has won numerous design awards, all this without either of them having design or international business experience. That's inspiration in itself!

The pet bowls are great in this hot spell, and both food and water bowls keep cool after a quick soak in cold water. The inspired slow feeding bowl has a bone design (they also do heart and fish shapes if you prefer) in the centre so your pooch can pace themselves when grubs up!

Check out their other products too, helping to solve everyday problems and making life that little bit easier. I love the cake server...perfect portions every time, and the 'Element No 1' stable table, without the need for any DIY expertise! See below.

I get so excited when I stumble upon great and considered design companies, and I'm happy to share my finds, especially when it can help your pets stay safe in this weather. Here is our miniature Labradoodle, Cole, waiting pool side, having had his walk before 7am this morning and now splayed out in the shade.

Have fun in the sun today, keep yourself and pets cool; click on the links to shop or for more information and thanks for stopping by.

Don't feast on fast fashion.....

Willow & Eve preloved clothing and consignment boutique
I've been helping my friend, the lovely Yvette, realise her dream of opening her own business, a preloved and consignment clothing boutique, Willow & Eve. They opened their doors last week and the response has been so positive that it reinforces my belief in buying well and not on a whim. Whilst my buying background meant I worked for fast fashion company, Arcadia, I always struggled with their ethos.

By doing both Wardrobe Wand and mumsweardaily I've realised that fashion can still be fun but doesn't need to cost the earth, literally! I often put together new outfits for clients with items they've owned for years; it just needs a different eye or refresh to breathe new life into something old. Or by purchasing just one new piece items they haven't worn become relevant again because they now have an outfit.

mumsweardaily made me reevaluate my own wardrobe and the importance of outfit building. I can honestly say I now think a lot more before I buy; how many outfits can I build with this item? Am I duplicating something I already own? Do I really need it? Am I just bored with my current wardrobe and this is just a fashion fix? Of course I continue to buy new but more thoughtfully than ever before.

This realisation and thought process made me coin the above quote; 'Don't feast on fast fashion, savour slow style instead'. It really sums up the current mood for sustainability, circular fashion and recycling. Just last month the government rejected all recommendations made by the environmental audit committee’s report on the sustainability of the fashion industry. To see more of the report from Drapers online click on the link above. It means the consumer needs to take up the slack on policies and change their fashion buying habits; so that the pressure will build for the fashion industry to become more responsible for their actions and impact on the environment.

So before your next shopping splurge please do the following 3 things:
1) Do you own Wardrobe Wand session. Make a list of items you think you need. This curbs the temptation to buy something on impulse.
2) Visit your local consignment store or dress agency; especially for occasion wear. Buying something preloved or often never worn reduces your spend on something you only wear once as well as reducing your fashion footprint. Also by taking along clothes you don't wear, and are in great condition, you could recoup some of the money spent, so it's a win win!
3) Look online for sustainable fashion companies and buy better. A little education can go a long way. and although items may cost more they are worth the investment.

Thanks for stopping by, click on the links for more info and here's wishing Willow & Eve all the success for the future.
