Sunday in Shoreditch

I had a fab Sunday with my girl pals mooching around Old Street, Hackney Road and then onto Columbia Road and its infamous flower market to finish, picking up the last flora and fauna bargains.

First we stumbled across The Dept. 'Store for the mind',  selling beautiful things for mindful living, which had a pop up shop in Old Street.

'A Few kind words' box of cards caught my eye, left, with 16 cards 'to warm hearts and lift spirits' and I bought a few 'Words to hang on' as alternative Christmas tree decorations that will then be suspended above my home office area for some daily inspiration in the New Year, see below. My personal favourite is In Difficult Times by Blaise Pascal; In difficult times you should always carry something beautiful in your mind.

En route to lunch we also came across The Makers Shop, 'a pop up store with a focus on craftmanship'. I bought a few prints for my own 'rabbits' from hammade.com; including the Bouncing and DJ Bunny prints. I plan to frame them in different primary coloured frames, as an excuse to start an art collection in their rooms!

Whilst in there we met one of the artists Claudia Borfiga and chatted to her about the concept store, which unfortunately closed on Sunday. However you can still shop from the makers and designers curated by the duo behind the project, Chhipa, here online.

Then it was on to Morito, the sister restaurant to Moro, Hackney Road for a feast of tasty tapas and cocktails. After a few Pomegranate & Cavas I felt like I should try to master these delicious dishes myself, in our new kitchen. I've just put the Morito cookbook on my Christmas wish list so we'll have to wait and see.

Great food, good service and atmosphere and a chance for a good old chinwag, with no forward agenda, meant I was relaxed and refreshed for the journey home; Southern Rail I'm looking at you!

I love to get a bit glammed up and meet with my friends in a prestigious London cocktail bar over Christmas or to bring in the New Year and so I've been looking up the top cocktail bars in the capital.

If you're unable to travel into the big smoke, and let's face it  the strikes have made it unbearable, then I've selected my dream 'furniture' to deck the halls and proffer my own cocktail menu for home entertaining this New Years Eve!

And I'm not on my own as it's predicted over three quarters of us will stay in this year, avoiding the costs, disruption and   accompanying disappointment that comes with a much anticipated 'Big night out'.

If you do venture further than the front door then The Dandelyan at the Mondrian London comes out tops and the decor is definitley a bit of me; designed by Tom Dixon, it has an emerald green marble bar, pink leather banquettes, evoking old hollywood glamour, accompanied by stunning Thames views! Definitely on my 2017 'to do' list.

Also in the Top bars of the World 2016 were the Connaught Bar, left, Oriole, from the same team as the equally commended The Nightjar. as well as the traditional The American Bar at The Savoy. See the definitive list here or try your hand at recreating some classic cocktail recipes from Jamie Oliver, Pimped up Prosecco and Grey Goose Le Fizz both float my boat! See below.

Whatever you do tonight have a fabulous time with friends and family and farewell to the old and 'How do you do' to the new! Thanks to all who've stopped by in 2016 and hope you'll come back for more in 2017.

The Blue Flannel shirt outfit

H&M is the place to go for a quick fashion fix and my latest purchase, as I bobbed in to exchange a present for my youngest, was this pale blue flannel shirt.

I've already worn out, not literally but the amount of times I've worn it, my H&M cotton pale blue shirt so when I found this I just saw it as a warmer version. I bought a size 12, as the fit is fairly standard, and I'm pleased with it, forgoing my usual thermal vest layer as it feels cosy enough.

It got its first wearing today, (just seen at neck) with my M&S grey sweatshirt, Hudson black skinny jeans, Deane & White dip dye cashmere scarf, Reiss leather biker jacket and Next Animal print ankle boots. I've swapped them for a plain heeled ankle boot below   to allow the bag and sweatshirt to stand out.

I  thought this Emoji/Grey sweatshirt, also at H&M, would add a bit of 'happy' and interest to todays outfit builder. The Spring Summer 17 catwalks nodded towards this micro trend with Altuzarra leading the way with Fruit emoji embroidery!

However if you want to be ahead of the game and don't mind a bit of customisation buy your own Emoji patches from 3X1. "Happy Days' patches £30 available now at Net-A-Porter, shown above left.
