Wardrobe staples:the camel coat

Here I'm wearing my M&S Collection Camel coat, which I bought in the sale last year, for the first time. It's an Italian wool mix fabric with 10% cashmere and was originally £149 down to £84.

I've thought about having it shortened to a more practical length, and one that would be more flattering, as it seems to swamp my frame and hide too much of my legs, giving the illusion I'm shorter than I am!

Whatever I decide to do with it the Camel wool coat is one outerwear item that you'll find hard to beat; it goes with anything, can smarten up any ensemble, and keeps you warm in the winter months.

I've chosen a few of my favourites available now, based on camel colour, as the tone is very important and style; double breasted is this seasons preferred fastening, but I've chosen single breasted too.

However my top pick from H&M, left, has now sold out online UK, which is really frustrating, but it may be available in store if you're lucky. I did find it on the US site, at $349, but sizes are selling fast. This is also a wool and cashmere blend, with 7% cashmere, and definitely a mix to look out for.

See below for the best of the rest of my camel coat sourcing, with prices ranging from £95.99 up to £350,  click on the links to shop and thanks for stopping by.

Wardrobe staples: the cashmere jumper

Today I wore my bright orange Uniqlo cashmere jumper and teamed it with my MiH dark blue jeans, as I love the colour combination, added my Next Leopard print ankle boots for interest, Mango beige flowy trench and Tan Coccinelle round leather cross body bag, all old. Even though I've had my round bag for a while I'm glad they're now on trend as it gives the look a little modernity!

For basic cashmere that's great value for money I'd always go to Uniqlo, H&M Premium or John Lewis. I also noticed today that M&S have upped the ante on their Autograph cashmere range with a star print jumper, see below.

Wyse London Sylvie Neon £210
Wyse London Ziggy Rainbow Star Jumper £220
However if you want cashmere with added interest then go to Wyse London, Cocoa Cashmere or Chinti & Parker. For todays outfit builder I chose the Clara cuff cashmere sweatshirt from Wyse London but I also think the cashmere on offer at Iris & Ink this season is great, especially the Maddie Belted cashmere sweater, £165, below.

Wardrobe staples: the silk shirt

There are a few things that I buy on rotation and know they will earn their keep in my wardrobe. Today I'm wearing my ivory Massimo Dutti silk shirt which I've had for a while and it's just beginning to show the first signs of wear.

Before this incarnation I owned both a Uniqlo silk shirt and a H&M premium silk shirt, both great value for money and good, classic fit but unfortunately succumbed to the every day rigours. Uniqlo now only do a silk touch shirt, which is a Rayon and Polyester mix, great if it's an easy care option you're after, and at £24.90 you could treat yourself to a couple of colours, however you can't quite beat the feel of 100% silk.

H&M Premium still do a 100% mulberry silk shirt but currently not available in black!

Anine Bing on Pinterest and Anine's world
Next on my shopping list is the perfect black silk shirt, inspired by this great shot of Anine Bing, Danish model turned designer. I do also love the bolder Parrot design silk shirt from her recent collection but I always veer towards a more classic look! See more of my silk shirt pins here.

& Other Stories Straight Fit Silk shirt £69
I think I might purchase this Straight fit silk shirt from & Other Stories, another great value shirt, for £69, but if you don't mind spending a bit more on this wardrobe staple then I can recommend the Winser Tilda silk shirt. With a signature stretch silk, made from 95% silk and 5% elastane, it will take the strain of every day wear in it's stride and if that's not enough of a reason to buy its also been worn by Holly Willoughby on ITV's 'This Morning'!
