Summer make-up: best BB cream

It's typical isn't it; you take ages to find the right foundation or in my case a BB cream, to find it's been discontinued when you run out.

I've been using Diorskin Nude BB creme Beauty balm, with an sunscreen SPF factor 10 for a light, moisturising, sheer coverage', which gives a dewy complexion, for a while now and over the weekend squeezed out the last remnants.

No problem, I thought, as my local department store stock Dior beauty products, so off I popped only to discover they've replaced it with a much thicker alternative, with yes more SPF protection 30, but not quite the same 'airy formula' of its predecessor!

My favourite BB creme, no longer available
As I swear by Garnier Ambre Solaire BB cream for holiday, it's a tinted and waterproof formula, and after consulting Vogue's 2018 guide to the best BB creams (guess which they had at number 1? Yes the Dior Nudeskin !! How frustrating...)  I thought I'd try the Garnier BB cream Miracle Skin Perfector, for my everyday base.

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector £9.99
I must say I'm really pleased with it and it's nearly a third of the price of my previous Dior product. Let's hope this BB Cream stays put for a while! See the results for yourself above in todays pic and here I've used the Light shade.

I'm wearing a Zara popover cotton shirt, old, H&M Linen drawstring trousers and my new Zara tan slides. However I must put a disclaimer in here to say I don't wear them to walk the dog and I actually think they aren't very practical for the school run but look great in a photo when standing still! (an honest and authentic review)

Dresses, dresses everywhere, but which one to choose?

As a consistent jeans wearer I often struggle to find dresses that I love, especially for summer. The style that I keep returning to is a shirt dress, with my wardrobe favourites being a silk, black one from Day Birger and an ivory one from Massimo Dutti. The Tanvi Kedia silk dress I'm wearing above is another shirt dress but is more of a loose, tunic shape and so I add definition by wearing my Gap chambray bomber jacket with it.

When I saw it in Anthropologie it was the print I was drawn to, the gorgeous colour palette and considered  placement of the print with the neutral stripe descending into an ethnic inspired floral deep border. It's the perfect dress to take on holiday, roll it up and you hardly notice it's in your suitcase and so easy to wear post beach, when it's still hot, and you want something airy and floaty.

Here I've teamed it with simple, gold sandals and my Coccinelle round tan bag, now more on trend than ever, even though I bought it in June 2015! See this Vogue article for this seasons best round circle bags.

Anthropologie has a great selection of dresses, and their website even has a dedicated 'Dress shop' tab, which you should definitely visit for a more eclectic range of designers and brands. Here I've chosen three of my favourite dresses from their current offer, an on trend dress, one which is great for work and another for those summer occasions you may have been invited too.

London Rose Regents Floral midi dress £128
Fashion Fix: A red based floral print dress is definitely this summer's on trend dress and this London Rose Regents Floral midi dress style is both flippy and flirty, although modest tea dress from the front it has a sexy, open back detail. A great length too as it just skims the knees. Equally appropriate on the school run or for an al fresco family BBQ.

Rixo London Anna Polka-Dot silk Maxi dress £305
Classic Work wear dress: Black and white is a classic combination that stands the test of time; add polka dots and spots, a slim silhouette, and long sleeves and you have a 'go to' work dress. Whilst this Rixo London Anna Polka-Dot silk Maxi dress is an investment buy the back neck tie makes this less formal and more fashion, giving you an edge over the more conservative, stuffy work wear looks!

Byron Lars Carissima Sheath dress £228
The Occasion dress: Wedding invitations seem to send recipients into a dress buying frenzy with varying success, but more often than not a dent in their bank account! This Byron Lars Carissima Sheath dress is both romantic and flattering, and the grey champagne shade is a stylish alternative to on trend sugary, pastels. A style that the designer reinterprets every season, as it's such a best seller, you'll be able to wear it for any occasion that calls for a distinctive dress.

The new nautical work outfit

Ralph Lauren Spring 2018 Ready- To- Wear collection Vogue
Every summer the nautical theme pops onto the fashion radar. Ralph Lauren, the designer most synonomous with the preppy, maritime look, has added a bright sunny yellow to the traditional red, white and blue mix for a new season update; so if you want to give a twist to your classic work wear then this is an option, see above.

 Mango textured knit top £29.99
J.Crew Point Sur Paper-bag pant £108
Zara Double Breasted-Jacket with pearl buttons £49.99
Massimo Dutti Large Brown Sunglasses £59.95
Smith & Cult 'Feathers and Flesh' nail lacquer £18
Mango Net Tote bag £49.99
Uterque Slides with knots and tassels £89
However today I've been inspired by Zara's longline woven jacket with contrast trims and pearl buttons, perfect for when you need a cover up going into work. It gives enough interest to what is otherwise a basic summer outfit. It may be a bit overboard (excuse the pun) to add these Uterque bow slides as well but if you don't need an extra layer then they'll also give you that nautical vibe.

Otherwise if you want to blow your budget I love this Michael Kors striped dress, below, available from Net-A-Porter, styled here with a Victoria Beckham Leather colour block Moon bag and ATP Atelier slides. Whatever ocean-going look you choose you can be sure it will be worth the investment because you'll be able to wear it year after year.
