Sometimes Winter layering can get a bit repetitive and I end up scrolling Pinterest for more cold weather outfit inspiration. Olivia Palermo still delivers in the style stakes and even though this image is from January of last year it is a lesson for all of us in how to combine fabric finishes and textures effortlessly.

Whilst you might not opt for real fur swap it out for a teddy or faux fur coat, which were so on trend this season. The important bit is to mix the fabrications to add interest to an otherwise all dark outfit. Here is my outfit builder inspired by Olivias off duty luxe look, all available from the high street now, bar the Canada Dry Green tea, with the logo even matching back to her trademark bright red nail polish!

The Puffer Coat outfit

I confess that I'm a bit late to the 'Puffer' party, mainly because I thought I'd got enough of an Outerwear collection already. Well I do have enough Outerwear to choose from but I've never found a 'Puffer' coat I really like, or one that doesn't make me look huge.

Last week I posted about the Uniqlo Heattech thermal underwear and ended up buying a t-shirt style thermal top as an alternative to my current M&S Thermal vest tops; I then scrolled across to this Ultra Light Down Hooded coat and thought the silhouette was slim, it had a practical hood and as it was on a limited offer of £69.90 thought it would be rude not to pop it in my basket as well!

The true test of 'a keeper' in my book is if you plan to wear a purchase as soon as you get it home; or in my case when it gets delivered. It arrived the next day and I've been wearing it all weekend; I'm not sure what I did before I had one as it's so useful.

Below I've chosen my favourite other eight 'Puffers' on the high street with new season versions in softer pastels and shorter jacket options, so you'll see this trend definitely continue into Spring. I also love the styling of this Puffer Jacket, above left, from J.Crew, with a suiting jogger, Denim shirt and Adidas pumps. See more inspiration from my Pinterest Board here.

January jumper outfit

Here I am wearing one of my favourite cashmere jumpers, an off the shoulder style from Zara. It's probably about 3 years old now and I tend to wear it for evening; for a date night look when it's chilly. Anyway in my quest to wear more of my lesser worn items I'm wearing it for the school run, but fashioning the neckline into more of a cowl neck than pulling it off my shoulder.

No drama today or colour pop, I'm keeping it simple by wearing it with grey and black. Grey M&S Autograph coat, old, Hudson black skinny jeans, old and Over the knee boots from Carvela, old, but still available, now £129 and my Black KYI KYI pom pom hat, which I bought in New York last December.

I wasn't able to find a similar jumper for todays outfit builder so I've shown a Hush Cashmere roll neck dress which can be worn with a legging, or thick tights as well as a black jean. I've also shown 2 alternative styles, above, which I came across whilst researching, An &OtherStories Turtle neck sweater £69 and an Off the shoulder mohair jumper from Finery. Both brands are worth a look at for their knitwear.

The Zara Leather look Tote bag is so practical and roomy and I loved the strap with contrast coloured edging and layered detail, a great work bag to pop everything in! I picked out my go to One Coat Nail polish from Nails Inc; definitely the easiest varnish and brush for a DIY manicure that I've found.

I also came across this gorgeous Olivia Burton Bee watch, left. It's a brand that was established in 2012 by two ex fashion buyers, Lesa Bennett and Jemma Fennings. They spotted a gap in the market for affordable, stylish and fashionable watches, and can now be found at Harvey Nichols, Goldsmiths and John Lewis. See more here at OliviaBurton.com, if you're looking to update your timepiece.
